ROOM-39 is a cutting-edge privacy and cybersecurity platform positioned as "The Secure Gateway" and a ghost-protocol communications network designed for absolute anonymity and resistance to surveillance. Launched on December 15, 2025, it serves as the flagship project of the parent holding company THATREDHOODEDGUY.

The official site is room-39.com, which currently operates on a waitlist/request-access model for vetted users.

ROOM-39 functions as a comprehensive secure social messaging and communications ecosystem, built around THE 39 PROTOCOLS—a manifesto of 39 interlocking security features emphasizing zero-trust principles, unbreakable encryption, and survival-oriented privacy in hostile environments.

History

ROOM-39 was founded by Yousif Al-Mimar, operating under the creative and technical alias THATREDHOODEDGUY. Based in Canada (with roots in Baghdad), Yousif combines a background in music production (rap, soul, progressive house) and content creation with deep expertise in cryptography, privacy engineering, and digital resistance.

The parent entity, thatredhoodedguy.com, frames its mission as "Architecting digital sovereignty. Forging the tools for the next era of privacy." ROOM-39 represents the culmination of this vision: "The sum of all protocols. The ultimate sanctuary."

The project emerged to address not just mathematical weaknesses in encryption, but human and coercion-based threats. This philosophy was articulated in Yousif's writings, such as "I Trust Math, But I Don’t Trust People" (Medium, January 2026), which highlights why next-generation privacy must protect against physical threats like coercion ("until someone points a gun at you").

Products and Services

ROOM-39 Secure Gateway

The core platform is a high-assurance, E2EE (End-to-End Encrypted) messaging and communications system designed for high-threat models (journalists, activists, privacy advocates).

  • Communication: Private/group chats, secure file sharing, and ephemeral/self-destructing messages.
  • Voice: P2P encrypted VoIP and verified channels.
  • Privacy Tools: File shredder, offline mode, screen shield (anti-screenshot), and privacy-preserving notifications.
  • Net.mail: A dedicated administrative messaging layer.

Security Features

ROOM-39 is defined by THE 39 PROTOCOLS, a detailed system manifest including:

  • Zero Trust Architecture: "Verify everyone. Trust no one. The architecture assumes compromise."
  • E2EE: AES-GCM 256-bit encryption on all transmissions.
  • Forward Secrecy: New session keys generated per transmission.
  • Ghost Protocol: Stealth mechanics to render the app invisible on the device.
  • Local Keys & Secure Enclave: Private keys never leave the device; utilizes hardware-level storage (WebAuthn/biometric integration).
  • Biometric Lock: FaceID/TouchID required for decryption.
  • Coercion Resistance: Includes Duress Pins (wipes or locks data), Panic Buttons, and Decoy Vaults for plausible deniability.
  • Steganography: Ability to hide payloads within images.
  • No Logs: System retains ephemeral metadata only.
  • Censorship Resistance: Global relays and decentralized elements using Cloudflare Edge/R2.
  • Anti-Tamper: Audit logs and Warrant Canaries for transparency.

Identity Management & Mnemonic Recovery

User identity and key material are anchored to a high-entropy 24-word mnemonic derived from a 256-word dictionary. This custom implementation is inspired by standards like BIP-39 but platform-specific, salted for added brute-force resistance.

This provides Dual-Layer Protection: 1. Basic Login: Uses password/biometrics. 2. Full Decryption: Historical access and recovery require the mnemonic seed phrase.

This ensures that even if a password is compromised via credential stuffing, an attacker cannot decrypt private content without the mnemonic—establishing a critical second factor for true ownership.

Technology Stack

  • Frontend/Mobile: React Native for cross-platform performance.
  • Backend/Infrastructure: Firebase core (securely configured), Cloudflare Edge, R2 for decentralized encrypted storage.
  • Cryptography: AES-GCM-256, forward secrecy, hardware-backed keys.
  • Design: Brutalist/Dark UI (OLED-optimized), minimal distractions, function-first philosophy.

Reception and Vision

As a newly launched project (late 2025), ROOM-39 appeals to those demanding defense-in-depth beyond standard E2EE—focusing on coercion resistance, metadata minimization, and digital sovereignty. Its mnemonic-backed dual-protection and THE 39 PROTOCOLS set it apart in the privacy space.

Future development includes continued red teaming, ISO compliance pursuits, and open-core transparency to allow verifiable security.
